Do I have to crush/smash my cans?
No, our can baler will take care of that for you. All we ask is, for the cans to be emptied of any liquids.
Why don't you pay as much for Aluminum cans as they do in California?
In California the consumer pays a deposit on each can. That deposit is collected by the California Department of Revenue and paid to the aluminum can recycler as a processing fee. The State subsidizes the recycling of aluminum cans to keep the price artificially high, to promote recycling.
Nevada does not charge a consumer deposit - therefore not subsidizing a redemption value program that pays a higher recycling fee.
How often are your scales checked?
Nevada Department of Weights and Measures requires our scales to be checked and certified annually. However, in an effort to maintain our scales accurate measure, we have an independent contractor that checks and re-certify our scales on a quarterly basis.
Why do I have to show my ID at the pay window?
Under the State of Nevada Revised Statutes, any person with scrap material (excluding Aluminum cans, Paper products & Plastics) must show a valid state ID. For any further questions regarding this question please contact the Las Vegas Metro Police Department, Metal Theft Division.
Why Should we RECYCLE? What is RECYCLING?
Everyone today has heard of how important it is to recycle and most cities offer a recycling program, but what exactly is recycling and how beneficial is it really to us and the environment?
Recycling is the process of turning one products useful parts into a new product; this is done to conserve on the consumption of resources, energy and space used in landfills.
For every 1 plastic bottle that is recycled, not only saves anywhere from 100 to 1000 years in the landfill but also saves the environment from the emissions in producing new bottles as well as the oil used to produce that bottle.
For every 1 ton of plastic that is recycled, we save the equivalent of 2 people’s energy use for 1 year, the amount of water used by 1 person in 2 month’s time and almost 2000 pounds of oil.
For every 1 pound of steel that is recycled, a 60-watt light bulb can be run for over a day on the amount of energy saved.
For every 1 pound of aluminum can that is recycled, it saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours -- or the equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline. More aluminum goes into beverage cans than any other product. An aluminum can that is thrown away will still be a can 500 years from now!
For every 1 ton of paper recycled it saves 17 mature trees, 7,000 gallons of water, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 2 barrels of oil, and 4,100 kilowatt-hours of electricity — enough energy to power the average American home for five months.
For every 1 ton of glass recycled, we save our resources of 1,330 pounds of sand, 433 pounds of soda ash, 433 pounds of limestone, and 151 pounds of feldspar. Glass never wears out -- it can be recycled forever.
In one year in the United States, the recycling of steel saves enough energy to heat and light 18,000,000 homes!
